Findings

Lateral and ventrodorsal radiographs centered on the cranial neck are available for review.

The metal opaque needle foreign body identified is extending in a rostroventral-caudodorsal orientation through the pharyngeal/retropharyngeal soft tissues to the right of midline at the level of the caudal aspect of the soft palate. The nasopharynx is gas filled while the oropharynx is empty/collapsed. The remaining included soft tissues are normal. The included skeletal structures are unremarkable.

Diagnosis

Needle foreign body in the right pharyngeal/retropharyngeal soft tissues.

Discussion

The patient underwent surgery and the needle was safely removed using ultrasound to help its localization.
