Findings
Study: Orthogonal radiographs of the right front distal limb were acquired.
Findings: There is marked extracapsular soft tissue swelling of the distal aspect of the right 2nd digit. There is complete lysis of the distal half of the distal phalanx of the 2nd digit. The medial margins of the nail of the 2nd digit are ill-defined and the entire nail is heterogeneous.
Diagnosis
- Aggressive lysis of the right thoracic 2nd digit distal phalanx with severe associated soft tissue swelling is most concerning for a subungual soft tissue neoplasia (such as squamous cell carcinoma or melanoma), with lysis of the adjacent bone. Tissue sampling is recommended.
- Thoracic radiographs for metastatic evaluation are also recommended.
Discussion
The owner elected to not pursue any further diagnostics.
