Findings

Orthogonal radiographs of the thorax are available for interpretation.

At the base of the cardiac silhouette, cranial to the carina, there is the impression of a poorly defined soft tissue opaque mass. This mass focally displaces the trachea dorsally and to the right, resulting in a ‘J’ shaped trachea in the lateral views. The cardiac silhouette and trachea are otherwise normal.

The lungs and remaining intrathoracic structures are normal.

There is moderate incidental spondylosis deformans, most severe in the thoracolumbar spine. The included cranial abdomen is normal.

Diagnosis

The findings are most consistent with a heart-base mass (e.g. chemodectoma). There is no evidence of pulmonary metastatic disease.

There is no evidence of pulmonary metastatic disease.

Discussion

The patient concurrently had a large forebrain lesion detected on MRI and was euthanized following medical management.
