5 year old domestic shorthair cat. Tachypnea, dyspnea

Findings

Opposite lateral and VD radiographs of the thorax were acquired.

There is a diffuse, severe bronchial to reticular pattern with marked peribronchial cuffing.

The cardiac silhouette, unobscured margins of the pulmonary vessels, mediastinum and pleural space are normal.

The musculoskeletal system and cranial abdomen are within normal limits.

Diagnosis

Diffuse, severe bronchial to reticular pattern. Primary consideration is given to feline lower airway disease (ie.asthma). Underlying concurrent infectious agents cannot be completely ruled out. Histoplasmosis is also considered.

Discussion

The patient was diagnosed with feline asthma and supportive treatment administered appropriately.
