Findings

Lateral and dorsoplantar radiographs of the stifle through pes (3 images total) are available for review.

In addition to the dew claw, there is an extranumerary digit with a fully formed metatarsal bone and two phalanges.

The central tarsal bone is elongated laterally and the 1st tarsal bone articulates with the extranumerary digit. The tarsus is extended in all images.

The remaining skeletal structures are considered normal for the age of the patient. No traumatic skeletal lesions are detected. The imaged soft tissues are unremarkable.

Diagnosis

The appearance of the tarsus is attributed to the patient’s polydactyl conformation. No traumatic skeletal injuries are detected, but soft tissue injuries remain possible.

The extension of the tarsus in all views may be secondary to patient positioning or contracture of the extensor musculature and should be correlated to clinical examination findings.
