Case of the week 6.28.21
Publication Date: 2021-06-24
History
4 month old yorkshire terrier. Respiratory issue
3 images
Findings
Left lateral, right lateral, and ventrodorsal thoracic and abdominal radiographs are available for review.
There is a severe bilaterally symmetric alveolar pattern affecting all lung lobes. The cardiovascular structures and remaining intrathoracic structures are normal. A moderate amount of curvilinear, wire-like metallic foreign material is identified in the gastrointestinal tract in the included cranial abdomen. The imaged skeletal structures are normal for a juvenile patient.
Diagnosis
- The severe pulmonary pattern is consistent with non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema. This finding is further supported by the suspected electrical wire material in the gastrointestinal tract and makes non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema due to electrocution likely (non-obstructive at this time in the included abdomen).
Discussion
The case was seen on clinics by Dr. Johnson
