Findings
Opposite lateral and VD views of the abdomen have been performed.
There is a massive, tubular, soft tissue opaque structures occupying the majority of the mid to caudal abdomen. There is mass effect causing cranial and dorsal deviation of the small and large intestines, the stomach, and the tail of the spleen.
There are a few punctate mineral opaque foci within multiple intestinal segments, and the small intestines are normal in size. The unobscured margins of the spleen and kidneys are normal.
There is mild multifocal incidental spondylosis deformans. There is the impression of thickening of the femoral necks at the edge of the field of view on the VD view. The mamillae are enlarged.
Diagnosis
- Massively enlarged uterus causing mass effect as described is most consistent with a pyometra given the clinical signs. Mucometra or hydrometra cannot be entirely excluded but are considered unlikely. Exploratory laparotomy is indicated. The enlarged mamillae are consistent with the reported intact status of the patient.
