Findings
Opposite lateral and VD views of the whole body have been performed.
There is focal decreased serosal detail of the mid to cranial abdomen due to visceral crowding and mass effect.
There is an irregularly marginated, ill-defined, ovoid mass within the dorsal abdomen between the kidneys, and this mass is causing caudal deviation of the left kidney. There is either a second mass, or large lobular extension of the initially described mass in the mid ventral abdomen; extending towards the right on the VD view. The region of the cecum is primarily fluid/soft tissue opaque with a few variably sized gas foci. The described mass(es) is causing caudal deviation of the small intestines, which appear otherwise normal. There is a small amount of heterogenous fluid/soft tissue opaque material within the stomach. The urinary bladder is normal.
The thoracic structures are normal.
There is fluid streaking and punctate gas foci within the subcutaneous tissues dorsal to the thorax, consistent with previous subcutaneous injection.
Diagnosis
- Large abdominal mass(es), which may be arising from the spleen, non-organ associated (e.g. lymph node), and/or left adrenal gland. The planned abdominal ultrasound is recommended.
- The appearance of the GI tract is consistent with hyporexia/anorexia. The material within the stomach may be digestible or non-digestible and is of uncertain clinical significance.
Discussion
The patient underwent an abdominal ultrasound where numerous hypoechoic lymph nodes were found throughout the abdominal cavity. The patient was diagnosed with lymphoma based on FNAs of said lymph nodes.
