Findings

Opposite lateral and VD radiographs of the abdomen are available for interpretation.

The serosal detail is normal.

There is a large homogenously soft tissue/fluid opaque tubular structure in the caudal abdomen extending from the level of the pelvic ventral to the colon. On the projection this tubular structure seen extending the lateral aspects of the caudal abdomen. The mammillae are enlarged.

The liver, spleen, unobscured margins of the kidneys, and urinary bladder are normal.

There are a few, incidental, the punctate metal opaque foci in the stomach. The remainder gastrointestinal tract is normal.

Diagnosis

Soft tissue/fluid opaque tubular structure in the caudal abdomen is most consistent with a fluid-filled uterus, most concerning for a pyometra given the reported clinical findings. A mucometra or hydrometra cannot be excluded.

Discussion

The patient underwent an ovariohysterectomy. Histpathology on the uterus confirmed the diagnosis of pyometra. " Cystic endometrial hyperplasia with severe fibrinosuppurative endometritis and intralesional bacteria "
