Findings

Opposite lateral and VD views are available.

There is marked generalized cardiomegaly with specific chamber enlargement. There is marked left atrial enlargement and suspected right atrial enlargement resulting in a valentine-shape on the VD view. The pulmonary vasculature and pulmonary parenchyma are normal.

There is moderate loss of serosal detail in the cranial abdomen.

The musculoskeletal structures are considered to be within normal limits.

Diagnosis

Severe generalized cardiomegaly is consistent with cardiomyopathy (likely hypertrophic). An echocardiogram is recommended for further evaluation. There is no evidence of heart failure.

Loss of detail in the cranial abdomen most likely secondary to the severe emaciation of the patient, which can be supported by the tenting of the skin over the dorsal spinous processess.

Discussion

The cat underwent echocardiography which revealed advanced hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The cat was started on medical treatment with a guarded prognosis.
