Findings
Orthogonal radiographs of the right shoulder are available for interpretation.
There is mild flattening of the caudal articular surface of the humeral head. On the lateral view, there is a faint, thin, curvilinear mineral opacity that courses parallel to the humeral head.
There is an irregularly marginated and curvilinear mineral opacity just distal to the caudal aspect of the humeral head, approximately 1.3cm in length (calibrated).
The soft tissues just distal to this mineral opacity are slightly irregularly marginated with suspect fain mineral pinpoint foci.
Diagnosis
Osteochondrosis dissecans lesions of the humeral head. The curvilinear mineral opacity at the caudodistal aspect of the right humeral head may represent mineralization of the joint capsule or large displaced OCD fragment. The faint changes to the soft tissues distal to the caudal aspect of the right humeral head may by artifact or dystrophic changes.
Next step/discussion
As this is a disease which is commonly bilateral, radiographs of the contralateral limb should always be acquired.
The dog was similarly affected on the left limb.
