Findings

Orthogonal radiographs of the abdomen are available for interpretation.

The serosal detail is normal. The uterus is markedly gas dilated, and there is a mineralized fetus within the right horn of the uterus. The skeletal structures of the fetus are partially collapsed, and the fetus is emphysematous.

The small intestines and kidneys are obscured by superimposition with the enlarged uterus. The liver, stomach, and urinary bladder are normal.

Diagnosis

Fetal death, emphysematous fetus and associated emphysematous metritis.

Surgical exploration is recommended.
