Findings
There is a fusiform, irregularly marginated soft tissue opaque structure within the caudal aspect of the thoracic esophagus, extending cranially to the level of the third pair of ribs, and extending towards the right hemithorax on the VD view.
There is a thin rim of gas surrounding the caudal aspect of this structure on the VD view. At the cranial aspect of the structure on the dependent aspect of the esophagus there is a mild amount of mineral opaque granular material.
The largely dilated esophagus is causing ventral deviation of the trachea and mainstem bronchi.
There is a patchy unstructured interstitial to alveolar pattern within the primarily ventral aspects of the cranial caudal sub segments of the left cranial, right cranial, and right middle lung lobes.
Diagnosis
Changes are most consistent with a gastroesophageal intussusception. Exploratory laparotomy is recommended.
The described pulmonary pattern is consistent with aspiration pneumonia.
Discussion
The dog underwent surgery which was confirmatory.
