Findings

Opposite lateral and VD projections of the abdomen acquired by the emergency service are available for interpretation.

The serosal margin detail is normal. The nipples are prominent, consistent with the patient’s intact status. The liver, spleen, kidneys and urinary bladder are normal. The stomach is moderately gas distended. A large, approximately 4.5 cm, spherical, well-defined metal opaque structure is noted within the stomach. The small intestine is normal in size and distribution and is diffusely gas and fluid filled without excessive distension. The colon contains a small amount of formed fecal material. The included thoracic structures are normal.

Diagnosis

Round gastric foreign body is most consistent with an ingested golf ball. There is no current radiographic evidence of mechanical ileus or small intestinal foreign material.
