Findings

Opposite lateral and VD projections of the thorax acquired by the emergency service are available for interpretation. The nipples are prominent, consistent with the patient’s intact status. The cardiovascular structures are normal. A thin, metal opaque “hook-shaped” structure with a sharp caudal margin and a small looped cranial margin is noted in the plane of the caudal intrathoracic esophagus. Stippled mineral opaque material is noted within the gastrointestinal tract, either the stomach or colon.

Diagnosis

Hook-shaped esophageal foreign body. There is no current radiographic evidence of esophageal rupture or mediastinitis.
