Findings
The serosal margin detail is normal. The patient has a pendulous abdomen. The liver is moderately to markedly enlarged extending beyond the costal arch with a rounded caudal ventral margin. The remaining visible abdominal structures are within normal limits. Mild incidental spondylosis deformans is seen along the lumbar spine. A few small, various-sized mineralized nodules are seen within the subcutaneous fat caudal dorsal to the ilium. The pulmonary vasculature is within normal limits. There is a soft tissue opacity caudodorsal to the stomach on the right lateral view, which is not seen on the remaining views and likely represents the head of the spleen and less likely an adrenal gland mass.
Diagnosis
- Finding of moderate to marked diffuse hepatomegaly with the concurrent finding of a pendulous abdomen and suspected calcinosis cutis, vacuolar hepatopathy and nodular hyperplasia secondary to hyperadrenocorticism is the primary concern. Other hepatic diseases or less likely neoplastic infiltrative disease are other differentials for the hepatomegaly. An abdominal ultrasound could be performed for further evaluation.
Discussion
The dog was diagnosed with Cushing disease.
