Findings

Single right lateral projection of the abdomen was acquired.

The stomach is markedly gas distended and abnormally positioned with the pylorus located in the craniodorsal abdomen. The fundus is ventral to the pylorus and contains a large amount of gas and heterogenous material consistent with normal ingesta.

There is normal abdominal serosal detail. The small intestines are diffusely moderately gas distended. There is incidental spondylosis deformans.

Diagnosis

Gastric dilation and volvulus with associated intestinal ileus.

Further radiographs were not performed as the diagnosis was readily made and the patient underwent emergency surgery.
