Findings
Troughout the pulmonary parenchyma there is a severe patchy alveolar pattern with presence of numerous air bronchograms. The changes are most marked ventrally. A lobar sign is seen between the right middle and right caudal lung lobes. In the cranial abdomen there is mild to moderate loss of serosal detail.
Diagnosis
Diffuse pulmonary hemorrhage most severe in the right middle and right caudal lung lobes resulting in the alveolar pattern. Mildly decreased serosal detail within the cranial abdomen is most likely secondary to the young age of the patient and due to brown fat.
Taking in consideration the patient's history rodenticide intoxication is the most likely differential.
Pathology Report
On the clinical examination the PT and PTT time were both prolonged by a factor 10x. Ingestion of coumarin-based rodenticides is the most common cause of vitamin-K deficient coagulogapahthy in small animals (Ettinger, 7th edition)
