Findings

Affecting the caudal endplate of L7 and the cranial endplate of S1, there are two ill-defined areas of lysis. The underlying bone is sclerotic, and there is new bone formation on the ventral aspect of L7-S1 partially bridging the vertebral bodies. The remainder of the lumbar spine is within normal limits.

Diagnosis

Discospondylitis

Pathology Report

The most common organism isolated from animals with discospondylitis is Staphylococcus Spp. Brucella canis should always be ruled out because of its zoonotic potential.
