Findings

A large soft tissue swelling is seen in the perineal region. Linear gas opacities are seen ventral to the caudal vertebrae near the rectum. These linear opacities are surrounded by a soft tissue opacity which is consistent with small bowel serosal margins. A segment of small bowel is seen that courses caudally into the pelvic canal. The urinary bladder and prostate are not visualized within their normal anatomic location.

Diagnosis

Bilateral peritoneal hernias.

On ultrasonographic exam - portions of the urinary bladder, prostate, and multiple small intestinal loops were present in the perineal region.

Pathology Report

Patient went to surgery where a colopexy, cystopexy, (suturing the colon and urinary bladder to the body wall) castration and herniorrhaphy was performed.
