Findings

Orthogonal radiographs of the thorax are available for interpretation.

Thorax: In the left cranial thorax there is a large ill-defined soft tissue mass extending from the level of the 1st to the 8th rib. The mass silhouettes the cardiac outline at the level of the left auricle. The trachea and mainstem bronchi are significantly displaced toward the right side. There are no airways visualized superimposed with that mass. Most visualized on the VD projection, on the left side, there is lysis of the 4th rib. Appreciated on the right lateral projection there is a mild amount of mineralization superimposed with the pulmonary parenchyma around the 4th and 5th rib. The remainder of the pulmonary parenchyma is considered to be within normal limits. There is no radiographic evidence indicative of pulmonary metastasis. The cardiovascular structures are considered to be within normal limits.

Diagnosis

Impression: 1. Soft tissue opacity within the left cranial thorax with associated lysis of the 4th rib. Primary consideration is given to a primary neoplastic process arising from the rib such as chondrosarcoma, osteosarcoma or fibrosarcoma.

Pathology Report

A sarcoma was diagnosed on FNAs.
