Findings

Orthogonal radiographs of the abdomen are available for interpretation.

Overall there is good serosal detail within the abdominal cavity. Within the caudal abdomen, there is a large tubular soft tissue structure visualized. This extends from the caudal abdomen up to the level of T12-T13, and is present on both the left and right side of the caudal abdomen. Overall this tubular structure has a lobulated appearance. There is a mass effect resulting in cranial displacement of the small intestines and craniodorsal displacement of the stomach. The urinary bladder cannot be individualized. The mammary parenchyma is prominent. There are no musculoskeletal abnormalities detected. The caudal aspect of the thorax is considered to be within normal limits.

Impression: Large tubular soft tissue lobulated structure arising from the caudal abdomen and prominent mammary parenchyma. Primary consideration is given to a pyometra. However, a less likely mucometra, hemometra, or alternatively early pregnancy cannot be completely excluded. For further evaluation if clinically indicated an abdominal ultrasound could be useful, alternatively surgical explore is indicated at this time.
