Findings

Orthogonal radiographs of the thorax and abdomen are available for interpretation.

Abdomen: Overall there is good serosal detail in the abdominal cavity. The small intestines have a plicated appearance and contain multiple irregular gas shadows. The stomach contains a mixture of gas and fluid. The urinary bladder is moderately distended. There are no significant musculoskeletal abnormalities detected.

Impression: 1. Changes affecting the small intestines when taken in consideration with the history provided are most consistent with linear foreign body. For further evaluation if indicated abdominal ultrasound and/or exploratory laparotomy could be useful.

Diagnosis

Linear foreign body. 9 feet of carpet was removed during surgery, this was extending from the stomach to the colon.
